Champagne France Houses to Visit: Reims and Épernay

A big house sells you its own cellar visit, and you book it on its own website. Nine of them publish a visit you can book, from EUR 20 to EUR 90 for the shortest. Set those prices beside the tour fares on Champagne France ticket prices before you decide how to spend the day.

Reims has six of the houses here, most of them on or near Saint-Nicaise hill. Épernay has two on the Avenue de Champagne, and Nicolas Feuillatte sits in Chouilly, just outside it. champagne.fr counts 410 houses in all, and 16,460 growers. The big names run visit centres with set slots; the family growers are easiest to reach on a tour.

The houses at a glance: price, length, days open

Each figure below is the house's own, from its visit page, for one adult on its shortest format. Every house sells longer and dearer visits as well.

Two things the table cannot show. First, you book a time slot, not just a day. Second, each house pours its own champagne and nobody else's. So one house makes a good visit, and two in one day fill it.

Veuve Clicquot and its 2026 calendar

Veuve Clicquot receives you at its Visit Center Saint-Pétersbourg, 1 rue Albert Thomas, in Reims. The shortest visit is an hour in the cellars with a glass of Brut Yellow Label, at EUR 36. The longest runs four hours around La Grande Dame, at EUR 260.

Check the calendar before anything else. The house closed from 28 December 2025 and reopened on 7 April 2026, Tuesday to Sunday. It opens every day from 29 June to 30 August, then Tuesday to Sunday to 1 November. From 4 November to 3 January 2027 it opens Wednesday to Sunday, from 9:30 to 17:30. So a Monday in spring or autumn finds it shut.

The house says its visit centre is 30 minutes' walk from the city centre. Wheelchairs and strollers go down to the cellars on request at the reception.

Pommery and Taittinger on Saint-Nicaise hill

Pommery's cellars are part of the UNESCO listing on Saint-Nicaise hill. The house's standard visit takes two hours, runs in English or French, and pours two cuvées for EUR 48. The house says Madame Pommery opened the estate to visitors as early as 1878, and credits her with the first brut champagne.

Taittinger is on the same hill, in the old Saint-Nicaise Abbey grounds. Its cellars lie 18 metres down in Gallo-Roman chalk quarries, and it runs tastings all year. You choose one of four tastings when you book. The house does not publish its prices on the page we read, so check them when you book.

Ruinart's crayères, 40 metres down

Ruinart, at 4 rue des Crayères, takes you into chalk pits about 40 metres deep. A visit lasts two hours, takes 12 people and ends with two cuvées. It costs EUR 90 for an adult and EUR 50 for ages 7 to 17, and children under 7 go free.

The house calls its pits chalk cathedrals, first mined for building stone. It is not the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Reims: the cathedral, Saint-Remi and the Palais du Tau were listed in 1991, and Saint-Nicaise hill's houses in 2015. With 12 places a slot, book Ruinart early.

Mumm and Lanson in the city

G.H. Mumm, founded in 1827, sits at 34 rue du Champ de Mars. Its galleries run for almost 25 km under the city. The Cordon Rouge visit takes 1 hour 30 and costs EUR 30. Visitors with reduced mobility see the first level only.

Mumm's days change with the season. It opens every day from 1 May to 31 October, then Thursday to Monday in March, April and from 1 November to 21 December. From 15 January to 28 February it opens Thursday to Saturday.

Lanson, at 66 rue de Courlancy, runs a visit of about two hours through its garden, winery and cellars. It costs EUR 32 for adults, EUR 20 for ages 13 to 17 and EUR 15 for 7 to 12. Children under 7 go free.

Moët & Chandon and Mercier on the Avenue de Champagne

Épernay's two big visits face each other along the Avenue de Champagne. Moët & Chandon, at number 18, has 28 km of cellars. Its visit starts at EUR 48 for 1 hour 30 and rises to EUR 460. It opens every day from 9:30 to 17:00, and the shop stays open to 18:00.

Mercier, at number 68, tours its 18 km of cellars by driverless train, 30 metres down. Adults pay from EUR 25 and ages 10 to 17 pay EUR 12. It opens every day from 6 April to 15 November 2026, then Wednesday to Sunday from 18 November to 27 December. A lift takes wheelchairs down.

From the town centre, you walk to either in under 20 minutes. The Épernay tourist office is at number 7, at the town end of the Avenue.

Nicolas Feuillatte and the cooperatives

Nicolas Feuillatte is in Chouilly, on the edge of Épernay. Its visit lasts 75 minutes and pours one glass for EUR 20, the cheapest here. It opens every day, 9:30 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 17:30, by booking only. The house sells shuttle packages from Épernay station, so you do not need a car.

Behind the houses stand the cooperatives: champagne.fr counts 120 of them. A grower delivers grapes to the cooperative, and some take the wine back to sell under their own name. Their bottles carry the code RC.

House or grower: what changes in the glass

The label tells you who made the wine. RM, for récoltant-manipulant, means a grower who makes champagne only from their own grapes. NM, for négociant-manipulant, means a house that buys grapes, musts or wines. RC means a grower who takes wine back from a cooperative.

The numbers explain the tours. champagne.fr counts 16,460 growers and 410 houses, yet the houses shipped 191.9 million of 266.1 million bottles in 2025. So a house gives you the famous name, kilometres of cellars and a set tasting. A grower gives you the person who made the wine, in a family cellar, and usually a smaller group.

Neither is better. If it is your first visit, you probably want one of each, and the most-booked full days pour at both.

Children, wheelchairs and Mondays

• Children: Ruinart, Lanson and Mercier publish child prices. The tastings themselves are for adults.
• Wheelchairs: Mercier and Moët & Chandon have a lift and a special entrance. Veuve Clicquot takes wheelchairs down on request. Mumm's visit reaches its first level only.
• Mondays: Veuve Clicquot is shut on Mondays outside the summer. Mumm opens Mondays from March to 21 December, and Moët & Chandon every day.
• Warm clothes: the cellars hold 10 to 12 °C in every season, so you bring a layer in August too.

Which tours put a house visit in the fare

A tour buys the house visit for you and adds a grower, lunch and the driving. Each line below comes from the tour's own listing.

• Veuve Clicquot: a shared full day from Reims or Épernay pairs it with a family grower and lunch, and a private day from Reims does the same for your party.
• Mumm: a shared full day from the Reims station pairs it with a family grower and lunch.
• Pommery: a small-group day from Reims visits it, and a private day from Paris pairs it with the grower Michel Fagot.
• Moët & Chandon: private days from Reims or Épernay put it in the fare. A walking day in Épernay adds Champagne de Castellane and Mercier.
• Nicolas Feuillatte: a small-group day from Paris, $263 a head, pours three glasses there and three at a family-run winery.
• Two big names: a private luxury day picks two from Veuve Clicquot, Moët, Ruinart, Taittinger or Pommery, subject to availability.
